Welcome to my site! My name is Birgit Wahl-Peters and, since 1994, I have worked as a freelance medical translator for English, for Spanish and for German which is my mother tongue.
Professional career
Since 1994, I have been working as a freelance medical translator focussing on the fields of medicine, pharmaceutics (especially clinical research), medical engineering (including IVD) and medical market research.
In 1994, I graduated from the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, FASK Germersheim, Germany with a degree in translation (Diplomübersetzerin für Englisch und Spanisch) with medical translation as my special field of interest. During my studies, I spent several semesters abroad, at the Universitat Autònoma in Barcelona, Spain, and at the Bristol Polytech, UK.
I am keeping my knowledge and expertise up-to-date by attending training and acquiring knowledge in the relevant sectors. This includes e.g.:
- Regular further training in all fields related to translating / editing / reviewing in the healthcare and life sciences sectors
- Training in other fields, such as non-fiction and technical writing or ILP (integrated solution-focused psychology)
- Journalistic and other writing experience as an author: newspaper / magazine articles e.g. on basketball or alpine skiing, articles on health-related topics (e.g. cardiac health and sports, anxiety disorders and phobia etc.)
Private life
Life is not only work and recreational periods are as necessary for the best linguistic performance as a sound focus on work. I have learned in my life that sports and music complement a brain-worker’s job best. For sports, after many years of playing basketball, I finally learned to love running (including half marathons), weight training and yoga but also love to go skiing (alpine and cross-country), inline skating or hiking. And for the music, I play the piano and have jointed the Wupperchor which is a choir that covers all kinds of music styles – pop, rock, gospel, oldies, classics etc. For my other beloved choir in my old hometown of Nuremberg, George and his lost sheep, I sometimes write lyrics for our choirmaster’s own compositions – which brings me back to (English) language and translation.
